Guidance for observing with WAG - Corona Virus health & safety:
In the first instance, please familiarise yourself with the latest government guidance which can be found here:
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/covid-19-coronavirus-restrictions-what-you-can-and-cannot-do
WAG will always be led by and adhere to Government advice on public gatherings.
Given the strong possibility of contamination when sharing views through a scope due to the regular touching of eyepieces and scope with hands and eyes, please also note and follow the guidance below if attending a Walton Astro Group meeting.
Please respect each other’s space and differing attitudes to the risks. WAG has a diverse membership, some of whom will be at greater risk than others, yet still wish to enjoy observing in company. If you feel like you would like someone to give you more space than they are, then you should feel free to politely ask this. Likewise, no-one should be offended by being asked to stand back if a member is feeling uncomfortable. Please do wear a mask as well if that makes you feel more comfortable. We all share a common love of the stars so I’m sure we can work together to start enjoying observing meetings again in a safe manner.
Thank you very much.
Stay safe.

- Please take a lateral flow test in the 24 hours prior to the meeting and do not attend the meeting unless this is negative
- Tests can be ordered here
- Setup a safe distance from each other - minimum 5m, more if possible
- Use hand sanitiser before and after touching kit and other normal precautions ie no handshakes
- Masks are advisable if in close contact with others, even outdoors
- The preference should be for people to only use their own scope as this is the lowest risk
- Please do not touch or look through other peoples' scopes unless there is an explicit agreement between the scope owner and member that they are both happy to do so
- Get good at describing the views as a way of sharing with others, or use a smartphone to share images
- Use the Facebook and WhatsApp groups to stay in touch when we can't meet regularly
